Only 7 weeks left – Prepping for WebCT Retirement Getting Started in Blackboard Learn

All summer courses have been loaded into Blackboard for Summer 2011 term – Are you prepared?

Blackboard LogoWebCT’s official retirement date is quickly approaching and we are working hard to ensure that you are prepared.  Any class that begins after May 2, 2011 will be taught in Blackboard 9.1 Learn (regardless of instructional method).  If you are still teaching in WebCT CE8 this Spring semester, it is time to start making plans for summer.

What do I have to do to prepare for Summer?

  • All summer 2011 courses have been loaded into Blackboard and are ready for you to begin development on your course materials.
  • If you are not teaching this summer (or if you need additional development spaces), you are encouraged to contact webcthelp@valenciacc.edu for each course you would like to migrate from WebCT CE to Blackboard Learn
  • Faculty will be able to access their course materials and create backups until May 28, 2011 at 11:00pm.  After that date, all materials will need to be in BB9.1 and access to WebCT for faculty will cease.
  • In the event of grade disputes, Valencia system administrators will be able to assist you in recovering your data and helping you to access the required information to investigate the dispute.
  • NEW!! Attend ABC’s for Teaching with Blackboard Webinars (SEE BELOW)

What if I don’t teach my courses currently in WebCT until after Summer?

  • All future courses will be loaded into Blackboard.
  • If you are not teaching this summer it’s important to request a development spaces for each course you would like to migrate from WebCT CE to Blackboard Learn by contacting webcthelp@valenciacc.edu prior to losing access to WebCT.
  • Faculty will be able to access their course materials and create backups until May 28, 2011 at 11:00pm.  After that date, all materials will need to be in BB9.1 and access to WebCT for faculty will cease.

  1. Diane Furry says:

I teach Medical Terminology in a hybrid class. The WebCT portion of the course has the textbook/assessments from the publisher. It requires the student to purchase an access code with the textbook to view the course. When I migrate to BB, will the student still have access to these course documents and need to purchase an access code?

    Thank you,
    Diane Furry

    • All textbooks for Summer Semester forward should have Access Codes for Blackboard – check with your publisher/textbook rep about the information need to add the course cartridge for Blackboard. You might want to check with an instructional designer or Learning Technology Center on what is your next step in getting this course setup in Blackboard if you are unsure. Email webcthelp@valenciacc.edu to get a development space if needed. Don’t forget to check out our getting ABC Webinars coming up too.
